From the tropics of the Philippines to the vast prairies of Manitoba, the Filipino community have been a growing and vibrant part of the municipalities of Western Manitoba for decades.
The story of Filipinos in Manitoba began in the early 1980's when the first group of Filipinos arrived in Canada to work in the healthcare industry to the 90's when our kababayans came to work in Winnipeg's clothing and textile factories, to the present where Filipino migrants come to Westman to work, study, and reunite with their loved ones. Our community experienced many challenges along the way but we also face an optimistic future.
Generations of Filipinos now call Westman their home and generations more to come eventually will. The Westman Filipino Community Inc. was established to formalize the groups and associations of Filipinos living in our area and to help promote, expand, and showcase Filipino-Canadian talent, culture and well-being.
